NAICS Code
What is a NAICS Code?
A NAICS Code (pronounced "nakes") is a classification under the North American Industry Classification System. This system was created for use by U.S. Federal Statistical Agencies to collect, analyze, and publish data about the U.S. economy.
How Do I Get a NAICS Code?
NAICS is a self-assigned system—no organization assigns you a code. Instead, businesses select the code that best represents their primary business activity. When asked to provide a NAICS Code, you simply use the one you’ve chosen.
If your business operates in more than one distinct line of activity, you may choose multiple NAICS Codes to reflect that. You can explore available codes on the NAICS website and use the keyword search feature to help identify the most accurate code(s) for your business.
Keyword Search Tips:
Type in a word or phrase that describes your business. The search results will display a list of relevant business activities and their corresponding NAICS Codes. Select the one that best matches your main line of business, or refine your search for more options.
Where are NAICS Codes used?
NAICS Codes play an important role in generating Economic Impact Reports. If you collect this information internally, be sure to include it when uploading your supplier data.
Alternatively, if suppliers register through the SupplierGateway platform, their NAICS Codes are collected during the registration process. When applicable, this information will be included in your data enrichment output.
