What are the ownership documents required for Canada EDC?
The document(s) that establish proof of majority ownership of your Canadian business are dependent on the form of organization. The options are shown below for:
- Sole Proprietor
- Partnership
- Corporation
- Cooperative Association
These are the only forms of organization that are eligible for EDC certification. All documentation should be provided as PDF filetype organized into a single document.
Proof of ownership and good standing (Sole Proprietor).
A T1 business income tax form showing your business activity for the most recent tax year. We recommend that you redact all but the last 4 digits of your social insurance number, if this form of proof is being used.
If your business has operated for less than one year, you may provide other forms of proof in the form of permits, licenses or other letter/document that can establish proof of ownership and good standing of the business.
You may redact information in your T1 form that does not materially affect our ability to determine your ownership in the business. For example we recommend that you redact all but the last 4 digits of your social insurance number, if this form of proof is being used.
Proof of ownership (Partnership)
A copy of the executed Partnership Agreement which shows the ownership in the partnership of the applicant(s) OR a T1 business income tax form that establishes the applicant(s) ownership in the business.
Proof of ownership (Corporation)
A copy of the Articles of Incorporation of the business along with share ownership documentation that establishes the percentage ownership in the business of the qualifying applicant(s).
Proof of ownership (Cooperative Association)
A copy of the Articles of Incorporation of the cooperative along with share ownership documentation that establishes the percentage ownership in the cooperative of the qualifying applicant(s).
