Ways to find success – Making AB 962 reporting easier
Data Analytics
The AB962 reporting process has 2 data analytics components – Tier-1 Spend (i.e., spend with your suppliers) and Tier-2 spend (i.e., spend that your suppliers spend with their suppliers)
Data Enrichment
To make matters a bit more complex, the spend has to be with companies that have the majority of their employees in California AND you need to figure out how to sort it all out and track various demographics so you can report Minority, Woman, LGBT and disabled veteran businesses AND one more thing – you need to be able to identify when you have spend with African American, Asian Pacific American, native American or Hispanic American Owned businesses.
Qualitative Components
Also, you are going to need to create a program statement and describe some things about your efforts to increase diversity and inclusion.
Got all that?
The good news is that the SupplierGATEWAY platform will track all of that for you and then create your report each year in the right format for submitting to HCAi
The 3-step process for completing your report is as follows:
- Initiate your Tier-2 program
- Load your Tier-1 Spend
- Enter you program and Policy Statements
Why is Tier-2 first on the list?
We mention the Tier-2 program first because it something you will probably do year-round and is the most involved. You will be inviting your suppliers to report and they will access your system to submit information about suppliers hey have been doing business with. You can learn more about this in the Tier-2 reporting chapter in the Learning Center.
Where does the Tier-1 data come from?
Tier-1 reporting is a bit more in your control – the data comes from your organization after all. The templates and steps for completing this are all online. If you want to do this in a more streamlined fashion, you can even integrate and not have to intervene manually at all. You can read all about loading spend and supplier data in the Tier-1 reporting chapter in the Learning Center
How do I put together program and policy statements?
The AB962 process includes a qualitative section to help HCAi and your stakeholders better understand the efforts that your health system or hospital facility is undertaking to promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in your procurement practices.
The Knowledge Base guide we have prepared to address this section provides some tips on how to organize your response to provide a clear understanding of what your system is doing or is proposing to do. Remember that most organizations are on a journey, and this is likely true of your health system. You may have done some things to promote outreach and inclusion but have plans to do more. This is typical, and very common. This section of the AB962 report is an excellent place to describe your accomplishments and paint a picture of the plans that you have for future improvement.
We have created a whole section for this – it’s worth a quick read [Click to view the guide]
How much rocket science is there to generating the report?
If you are using SupplierGATEWAY, none (that you need to know anyway). If you are doing this manually – good luck!
The system that you trust to track and manage your supplier enablement onboarding, spend analytics, procurement, credentialing and more, happens to also know how to generate your report automatically. So you only need to be able to follow some simple step by step instructions and you will be all set! Take a look at the chapter on generating your AB962 report in the Learning Center.
